How to promote your business on Facebook

Posted by Angela Cavallari Walker on February 25, 2010 at 8:53 AM

By this point in your life or career you have likely either joined or been prompted to join Facebook. While you may have shrugged off the social networking giant as simply a time suck, you may want to give it a second look. Facebook currently has over 100 million users. Additionally, Facebook has created more opportunities than ever for business owners to take full advantage of it's features. Here is a summary of steps that you can take to drive more traffic to your site and business.

Create a Profile

The easiest thing you can do on Facebook is to create your profile. Be sure to completely fill out as much information as you can, as a full profile attacts more interest. More imporantly, you will want to add your business website url where prompted. The next step involves seeking out friends and acquaintances. Facebook allows you to search for friends through personal email accounts such as gmail, yahoo and hotmail.

Once you have created your profile, you will want to create a group and page for your business. If you are diligent in your process, you can have up to 600 members in just one month!

Facebook Pages

While Facebook groups are important, Facebook pages relate directly to your business. Just like your personal profile, you will want to completely fill out your Facebook page. Be sure to include your keyword on your page name so that search engines can index your information.

Incentives to join your page such as discounts and coupons are a great way to attract people to join your page. Each time someone becomes a fan of your page, it will show up under their profile where their friends will see your business. Facebook pages are also a great place to post your blogs, newsletters, articles and company related videos. If you haven't already, you may want to seek out a service that specializes in writing and video services for small businesses.

Facebook Ads

Once you have successfully created your fan page, Facebook will prompt you to expand your exposure through ads. Facebook Ads enables you to target users by gender, region, age and interests.

See you on Facebook!
